5/20/2021 Kettle Moraine Northern Unit – Mauthe (moth-ee) Lake campground WI
This is a quiet, secluded state park not far from Sheboygan, WI. I chose an electric site #409 that was close to a small stream and was secluded. There was even a little “fairy” tree that I took a bunch of pictures of. All of the sites in the #400 campground were nicely secluded and far apart. There are trees between the sites that offered privacy, and though there are not full hookups in the park, but at least two dump stations and drinking water were available. The coolest thing was the firewood vending machine. Honestly, it was a small trailer that accepted credit cards and exact cash, and the wood literally fell down a chute. At only $5 I bought two nicely sized bundles.
The toilets and bathhouse was just down the road and was well kept with individual shower rooms and timed water of at least a couple of minutes. The water temp was nice and hot and the shower rooms were large and provided a nice dressing area separate from the shower. There were also pit toilets in individual stalls scattered throughout the park. Wisconsin state parks are hard to beat.
Tamarack Trail, etc. Nicely wooded with a good clearing for hiking. A little muddy when it rains. There were a pair of cranes hiding in the grass and I was able to get a couple of snaps of them.
Fishing – There are a couple of piers for fishing and I saw a man pull out a couple of good sized fish.
Birds, etc. Lots O Birds! I think I should get a book on birds. There are so many and it would be nice to identify them. The kids would love it.
Beach – Good size with buoys for safety. I just won’t go in the water. EEK!
Picnic areas – Plenty of space for picnics and a group area.
Annual pass $32 Worth it.
Nice people – I enjoyed my visit and people were friendly. Making connections is important to me and I am grateful to meet so many travelers.
