September, 2021 Sioux Falls
Lake Vermillion Rec Area is a campground that I stayed at earlier this year. It’s right on the lake and there’s a public beach for swimming and a pier for fishing and boating. It’s one of the best well kept campgrounds I’ve been to and not too far from Sioux Falls. The campground hosts were amazing! At night you can hear the cows mooing from nearby farms. There’s a small trail too that you can stretch your legs on. Watch for turkeys, deer and mourning doves. The chicks were teenagers now and they were all over the road and fun to watch!
Note: I was here back in September, so my posts are a little out dated and in sketchy order. My Instagram account has fewer posts, but a better timeline.
Downtown Sioux Falls, SD
Again, this is another favorite. This is my third time on their “main” street and I always find something cool to do. I was able to get a hair cut, eat at a local pub, and buy some macarons from the patisserie. There is also a museum, but unfortunately, I didn’t have time to visit. I’ll check it out next time.
Omaha, Nebraska
When I saw the hair stylist in Sioux Falls, I mentioned that I wanted to go to Nebraska for a night and she told me about the zoo in Omaha. It was only a few hours away and she and her family visited the zoo often. So, the next day I left my campsite in Lake Vermillion and headed towards Omaha, NE. It was about a 4 1/2 hour drive and the highway ran along the Missouri River and into Iowa then back into Nebraska. Omaha’s Business District was quaint and there were a lot of shops and eateries to visit. I found a parking spot and took a nap, then parked at a nearby Cabela’s for the night. It was a rainy day and not too many people were around, but there was a really cool candy store, Hollywood Candy, that had all kinds of vintage and movie stuff and a real theatre. There was also an arcade for those who wanted to play.

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium – A little pricey, but fun! This is a good sized zoo and there was plenty to see. Parking was easy and I bought my ticket online so entering was a breeze. There’s also a working train that takes visitor around the park. I did not have a chance to go to the aquarium and will visit again someday.

Council Bluffs, Iowa Horseshoe Casino is your typical casino that offers truck and RV parking. I planned to have a night out there, and ate stir fry and then tried to find a video poker game. Since I’m not a gambler, I couldn’t figure out how to work the machine and just left. The cool thing about this trip is that these two cities are right across the river from each other and I “killed two birds with one stone” more or less.
So, I added two more states to my vast list of visits and am heading to North Dakota to the sugar beet harvest.
